Comment
Provisional coinage of 1915-1923 was made in order to facilitate conversion from the Real system to the decimal system, because up to that point Real and Peso were both legal tender, but the Real was being phased out. For most of fraction it was easy to convert them, but being a system based on 8, an 1/8 Peso equivalent was needed, this 12.5 coin was the answer. There are two varieties of this coin. The one pictured has a short "1" in the denomination on the reverse. Another variety exists with a longer "1" which extends even with the bottom of the "2" .Interesting fact
The 12½ Centavos coin from Guatemala, issued in 1915, features a unique design that showcases the country's rich cultural heritage. On the obverse side, the coin bears the image of a Mayan warrior, while the reverse side features the Guatemalan coat of arms. This coin was part of the provisional coinage issued during the country's political and economic turmoil in the early 20th century. Despite its historical significance, the coin remains a rare find for collectors due to its limited mintage.
