Interesting fact
The obverse (front) side of the coin features a mythical creature called a "gorgoneion," which is a representation of the Gorgon Medusa from Greek mythology. The Gorgon was a monster with snakes for hair and a gaze that could turn people to stone. The inclusion of this image on the coin may have been meant to symbolize the power and protection of the city of Corinth.
