Lange 877Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 1/16 Thaler coin from County of Holstein-Schaumburg-Pinneberg is that it features a unique combination of Christian and pagan symbols. The obverse side of the coin depicts a crowned shield with the initials "E" and "S" (for Ernest III) surrounded by foliage, while the reverse side shows a naked warrior holding a sword and a shield with a cross on it, surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves. This blending of religious and mythological motifs was not uncommon in Renaissance-era coinage, but it makes this particular coin stand out as a fascinating example of cultural syncretism.
