Comment

The coin is dedicated to marriage of Ernst Ludwig I and Elisabeth Sophie of Brandenburg, which took place on Sunday 3rd of June 1714 in Ehrenburg Palace. By mistake the SCWC 2017 describes it as marriage of Ernst Ludwig I and Dorothea Marie of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg, who died a year and month before, in 1713.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1714 Ernest Louis (Marriage) 1/12 Thaler from Saxe-Meiningen is that it features a unique design that commemorates the marriage of Ernest Louis, the Duke of Saxe-Meiningen, to Princess Elisabeth Sophie of Brandenburg. The coin's obverse side features an image of the couple holding hands, surrounded by an ornate frame with flowers and foliage. This design was meant to symbolize the unity and prosperity that the marriage was expected to bring to the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen.
