During this period a lot of currency circulating as legal tender in Nicaragua was US Dollar coins, mostly Dimes and Half Dimes. So in 1859 the government authorized Leon to mint smaller Dime fractions for convenience. This right was finally exercised in 1877 with the 1/24 and 1/12 Dime coins.Interesting fact
