Menelik II (1844/1913), initially the Negus, became Emperor, or King of Kings, in 1888.He enlarged the country and gave it modern status, creating infrastructures such as hospitals, schools and an army capable of repelling Italian advances.
He died in 1913, leaving power to his grandson, then too young to reign.
