Isuzu River is a river which lies in the west end of Ise Grand Shrine or Ise Jingū Shrine (inner main sanctuary called Naikū). It has been written about in various waka, a type of classical poetry in Japan, since long time ago. It is located in Ise- Shima National Park, a designated area based on the Natural Parks Law in 1946. The surrounding area of this river is one of the representative scenic spots in the park.Uji Bridge is a wooden bridge built across Isuzu River, located in an entrance of the approach to Naikū of Ise Grand Shrine. It is reconstructed every twenty years in advance of the Shikinen Sengū Ceremony (a ceremony held in Ise Grand Shrine every twenty years, in which all of the buildings of Naikū are reconstructed, and the object of worship is transferred to one of the new buildings).
Interesting fact
The 1000 Yen - Heisei (Mie) 26 (2014) coin from Japan is part of a series of commemorative coins issued by the Japanese government to celebrate the 26th year of the Heisei era, which corresponds to the period between 1989 and 2014. The coin's design features a beautiful image of a Japanese garden, complete with cherry blossom trees, a pond, and a traditional Japanese bridge. The coin's obverse side features the profile of Emperor Akihito, who was the emperor of Japan at the time the coin was issued.
