Iwate commemorative coin focuses on the Hiraizumi cultural heritage newly inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage in this June 2011, the cultural heritage is regarded as a symbol of restoration of Iwate prefecture from the damages by the earthquake and tsunami hit on March 11, 2011.
The Konjiki-do Golden Hall was a constructed by Fujiwara no Kiyohira, the founder of a noble family called Oshu Fujiwara in the 12th century. Apart from the roof, it is covered with gold leaf both inside and out. In the hall, the four bodies are placed: Kiyohira, the first Oshu Fujiwara lord, his son, Motohira, Motohira’ s son, Hidehira and Hidehira’ s son, Yasuhira. Chuson-ji lotus was grown up from seeds 800 hundred years ago, which were remained in the Konjiki-do Golden Hall. Pure Land Garden of Motsu-ji temple was constructed by the second and third lords of Oshu Fujiwara clan.
