Issuer bank countermarked 2 000 KM# 55 coins, as celebration for its 20th. anniversary. Later, on 1997, countermarked 500 more coins to celebrate 30th. anniversary. Out of different lettering, 20th. anniversary batch has countermark out of center, while the 30th. anniversary batch is centered. Additionally, 30th. aniv. coins have countermark colorized.NOTE:
- SA catalog keeps same # as non countermarked coin, and only adds a note detailing both countermark varieties.
- On the other hand, CG catalog also keep same #, but adds variant. On both cases, coins are listed on the original year.
- Krause added letter to end of #, to separate them: KM# 55 is the main coin, KM# 55a, copper trial, KM# 55b gold trial, KM# 55c 1987 countermark, and KM# 55d 1997 countermark.

One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Central Bank of Uruguay, and it features the logo of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on its reverse side.
