Issued on the 2nd of December 1984Interesting fact
The 100 Sheqalim (Hanukkah) coin from Israel, minted in 1985, features a unique design that represents the eight-day Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. The coin's obverse side depicts the menorah, a symbol of the holiday, with eight branches and a ninth branch in the center for the shamash (helper candle) that is used to light the other candles. The reverse side of the coin features an image of a dreidel, a traditional Hanukkah game played with a four-sided spinning top. The coin's design was created by Israeli artist and sculptor, Yitzhak Kagan.
