The brown bear is found in the Caucasus, on the Kamchatka peninsula, in Siberia and in the Maritime Territory of the Far East. This omnivorous animal, whose population is declining, may be 2.5 metres long and weigh over 300 kilograms.

Interesting fact

The Brown Bear coin was designed by Russian artist, Yuriy Kharuk, and it features a majestic brown bear, the largest predator in Russia, on the obverse side. The reverse side of the coin features the coat of arms of Russia and the denomination. The coin was minted in 1995 as part of a series of non-circulating coins dedicated to the fauna of Russia.
