Comment

Date of issue: 29 MAY 2001

The S.S. Prokofiev’s opera «The Gambler», created in 1916, with the libretto written by the author after the F.M. Dostoyevsky’s story of the same name was the very first of the seven operas from the great creative heritage of the composer.

Interesting fact

The Bolshoi Theater coin was designed by Russian artist, V.A. Nefedev, and features an image of the historic Bolshoi Theater building in Moscow on one side, and the Russian coat of arms on the other. The coin was minted in 2001 to commemorate the theater's 225th anniversary. It's worth noting that the coin is made of silver (.900) and weighs 1111.12 grams, making it a substantial and valuable collector's item. Additionally, as a non-circulating coin, it was not meant to be used as currency, but rather as a collectible or investment piece.
