Comment

The seventh design in The Queen's Beast series which began in 2016, there are 10 Beasts in total which are a representation of the statues that stood in Westminster Abbey on the Queen's Coronation in 1953. The statues are now on display in the Canadian Museum of History.

The White Lion of Mortimer joins the Black Bull of Clarence as heraldic beasts from the House of York. The White Lion comes to Queen Elizabeth II through King Edward IV, the first monarch from the House of York. His grandmother, Anne de Mortimer, was the one responsible for passing the White Lion and associated symbols down to King Edward IV, and his brother King Richard III.

For the White Lion of Mortimer there are currently 12 different issues of varying metals, denominations and years of issue, which all share Jody Clark's design. Issue limit: 445.
