- A latent image which changes from a padlock to Britannia’s famous trident
- Surface animation bringing the background of sparkling waves to life
- Micro text gives both decoration and protection – ‘an ornament and a safeguard’
- Britannia’s shield bearing the Union Flag accented with tincture lines
The 2023 Coronation Britannia coins will be the only Britannia bullion coins in history to feature the first crowned effigy of His Majesty King Charles III.
The official crowned bullion effigy struck to mark the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III does not feature the traditional Britannia edge castellation. In line with The Royal Mint’s commitment to sustainability, we have used the same crowned obverse as the rest of the Coronation bullion coin range to improve efficiency and reduce waste.

Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 100 Pounds - Charles III (Coronation; 1 oz Fine Gold) 2023 coin is that it features a unique reverse design, depicting a crowned effigy of King Charles III, surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves, symbolizing strength and longevity. The design was created by sculptor and engraver, Jody Clark, who is known for his work on various coins and medals for the Royal Mint. The coin's design is particularly notable because it marks a new era in British coinage, as it is the first coin to feature King Charles III since his accession to the throne in 2022.
