Comment

NOTE: This coin is a Piedfort, for KM# 318, means to be a coin minted on a doubled thickness planchet, but using the dies of the regular issue. Therefore, the weight shown in the reverse does not match with the actual weight.

This coin celebrates the first Spanish railroad at Europe. In fact, first Spanish railroad was built at Cuba on 1837, that still was a Spanish colony. Also from 1836 there was a railroad to transport production of the Armao mine, at Asturias province, using animal traction.
Barcelona-Mataró line was the first regular line to transport goods and passengers using engine.
Late development of railroads at Spain comes from rough terrain, with several mountains and big level differences.
