The Take of the Bastille, on July 14th, 1789. became a symbol of the success of the French Revolution, in spite of the medieval fortress, that formerly was used as state jail, at the moment of the taking only had 7 prisoners, and was defended by only 114 soldiers.This was because the medieval fortress had too high maintenance costs, and was decided on the previous year to be demolished.
Only 1 of the defenders died at the event, and nearly 100 in the attackers.
