The assault to Moncada Garrison at Santiago de cuba, 2nd. most important military garrison of Cuba at the moment, on 1953, was the first attempt of Fidel Castro and his troops to gain the control of Cuba. Attack failed, and Castro and many fellows were made prisoner, and some killed.Currently, Moncada Garrison, renamed as "Ciudad Escolar 26 de Julio" (July 26th., School City) was transformed in a school center. New name refers to the date of the assault, July 26th., 1953.
Fortifications were demolished, and damage on walls, product of the bullets fired during the assault were kept original, as a reminder of the Revolution facts.
