Comment

Karel Čapek was a leading literary figure of First Czechoslovak Republic, renowned journalist, dramatician, writer and intelectual. On most works, he cooperated with his brother Josef, inventor of the word "Robot". His works in pre-war years were strongly against nazism and after signing the Munich treaty, all his life ideas collapsed, and he died three months after. One of the first-to-be detained during initial stages of occupation of Czechoslovakia, his house was searched by Gestapo, not knowing he died months ago. His brother Josef died of typhus in Bergen-Belsen two days before its liberation.
