Interesting fact
The coin features a portrait of Jean Jaurès, a French politician and leader of the French Section of the Workers' International, on its obverse side. Jaurès was a prominent figure in the French socialist movement and played a key role in the development of the French left wing. He was assassinated in 1914, just before the outbreak of World War I. The coin was issued in 1999 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Jaurès' birth.
