Interesting fact
The coin's design features a woman personifying the French Republic, wearing a Phrygian cap and holding a tricolor flag. The Phrygian cap is a symbol of liberty and freedom, and it has been used in French art and iconography since the 18th century. The tricolor flag, of course, represents the colors of the French flag. This design was created by the French artist, Pierre-Paul Émile Millefaut, and it was used on several French coins throughout the 1980s.
