Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Pattern 100 Francs (Essai) 1976 from New Caledonia (Overseas France) made of Bronze-nickel weighing 10g is that it features a unique design that was never adopted for circulation. The coin's obverse side depicts a stylized image of a Kanak warrior, while the reverse side shows a map of New Caledonia surrounded by the words "République Française" and "Territoire de Nouvelle-Calédonie". This design was created by the French artist and engraver, Pierre Gandon, and was intended to be used as a prototype for a new series of coins for New Caledonia. However, the design was ultimately rejected in favor of a more traditional design featuring the French Republic's coat of arms. As a result, only a small number of these pattern coins were produced, making them highly sought after by collectors.
