Under the name 'Numismatic Jewels', in 2008 a new series of collector coins begins in which unique pieces of Hispanic numismatics will be reproduced, and which will continue over the next few years. This third edition in the Numismatic Jewels series is dedicated to the Visigothic Tremissis of Suntila and Leovigildo and to the Hispanic-Carthaginian Shekel. The Visigoths were present in Spain from the mid 5th Century to the beginning of the 8th Century. Of consequence were the reigns of Leovigildo (568-586) and Suintila (621-631). Leovigildo made Toledo the true capital of the Kingdom. Under Suintila, Spain became an independent country with sovereignty for the first time in its history. The tremissis that are reproduced in this series were minted in Toledo and in Emerita (present-day Merida) during their reigns.
