Comment

Decree No. 21.189 of 02MAY1931:
Extinguish the island soft currency regime (-25% than the mainland currency). In the period 1910-1931, no coins were issued for the islands of the Azores and Madeira. Not later either.
The commemorative coins issued in 1980 and 1986, which the Krausse and Alberto Gomes catalogs identify as coins for these territories, are in reality continental commemorative coins circulated throughout the Portuguese territory (Mainland + Azores + Madeira). They only celebrate the governmental autonomy of these islands.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 100 Escudos (Azores Regional Autonomy; Silver) 1986 coin from Portugal is that it features a unique design that showcases the cultural and natural heritage of the Azores, a group of islands in the North Atlantic that are part of Portugal. The coin's obverse side features a portrait of the Portuguese queen, Queen Elizabeth II, while the reverse side depicts a scene of a traditional Azorean festival, complete with musicians, dancers, and a backdrop of lush greenery and volcanic landscapes. This coin is a beautiful representation of the rich cultural and natural heritage of the Azores, and its unique design makes it a standout among other coins.
