Comment
By the middle of the 19th century, the industries that had long defined Canada were slowly giving way to a new economy of manufactured goods. This gradual transition to industrialization accentuated the need to create a continental infrastructure, establish communications systems and ensure efficient means of transporting people and goods to larger markets. On March 29, 1867, the British North America Act, concerning the "...Union and Government of Canada, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick..." was signed to create the Dominion of Canada and establish its constitution. One hundred and forty years later, the Act remains a cornerstone of the wonderful country we know today.
This 14-carat gold coin features Queen Victoria's coat of arms, which illustrated the British North America Act, enacted by the British Parliament on March 29, 1867, as well as extracts from this document. In addition, below the excerpts are the original coats of arms of the four founding provinces: Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The entire motif was masterfully created by Bonnie Ross.
Special features:
Finely chiseled details of Queen Victoria's coat of arms and provincial coats of arms.
Packaging:
Piece encapsulated and presented in a padded brown double-shell packaging, protected by a case.
