Internationally renowned Canadian photographer Yousuf Karsh is renowned for his famous portraits of Sir Winston Churchill and many other politicians, as well as dignitaries, royalty and celebrities, including Albert Einstein, shown here in 1948. In this year of celebrations, 2015, the world pays tribute to one of history's greatest scientific minds. Albert Einstein (1879-1955) shattered entrenched beliefs of the time and propelled physics and astronomy in completely new directions. He revolutionized the way we understand the world and, 60 years after his death, continues to inspire scientists, inspiring them to believe in the power of their creativity and to push back the boundaries of scientific thought.Albert Einstein put the finishing touches to his masterpiece, the theory of general relativity, exactly 100 years ago, in 1915. Ten years earlier, he had presented an earlier version of his legendary E=mc2 formula in the publication of the Theory of Special Relativity (1905).
In 1948, Canadian photographer Yousuf Karsh (1908-2002) produced one of the world's best-known portraits of Einstein.
