Comment

This is the latest Kangaroo coin release by the Perth Mint for their long running Australia Gold Nugget bullion coin program. This program was first started in 1986 and saw the first introduction of the iconic kangaroo design in 1989. Ever since then, the Perth Mint has released succeeding coins with different kangaroo motifs. The 2022 Kangaroo saw a refreshed reverse with new font, similar to the 2022 Kookaburra and 2022 Koala bullion coins, and was released for worldwide sale on the 15 November 2021.

For additional peace of mind, the coin incorporates an authentication feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter. Detectable under a magnifying glass, it is designed to make it significantly more difficult for the coin to be counterfeited.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, Kangaroo gold bullion coins have been trusted for their weight and purity by investors worldwide for more than three decades. Presented in a protective acrylic capsule, the coin is subject to an unlimited mintage. Production will close at the end of 2022, after which The Perth Mint will declare the coin's official mintage.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 2022 Australian Gold Kangaroo Coin is that it features a unique "kangaroo privy mark" on the reverse side, which is a small image of a kangaroo that is only visible under magnification. This privy mark is a distinct feature of the coin and adds an extra layer of authenticity and collectibility to it.
