As the platinum program enters its third decade, this marks the first time the United States Mint has issued a series featuring all new obverse designs created concurrently by one designer, as well as a new common reverse design.The new three-year “Preamble to the Declaration of Independence Platinum Proof Coin Series” will feature one ounce proof coins struck in 99.95 percent platinum.
Interesting fact
The American Platinum Eagle is the only platinum bullion coin produced by the United States Mint. It was first introduced in 1997 and has been minted annually since then. The coin's design features a bald eagle soaring above the earth, symbolizing freedom and strength. The obverse side of the coin features the portrait of Lady Liberty, which was designed by John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.
