Vasco Núñez de Balboa was a Spanish conquistador who was born in Jerez de los Caballeros around 1475 and died in Acla, in present-day Panama, on January 15, 1519. He was the first European to discover the Pacific Ocean from its eastern coast, in 1513. (Source : www.wikipedia.org)
