The obverse design depicts Fort + Cricket Grounds as archaeological, cultural, and economic transport characteristics of Galle District.The construction of the fort started when the Portuguese arrived on the Sri Lankan coast at the end of the 16th century was considerably improved during the Dutch domination in the middle of the 17th century. The Dutch added watchtowers and fortifications while building a church, a court, a hospital, etc... Then, under British rule at the end of the 18th century, the clocktower was added to mark the jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1883.
