The Temple of Artemis was one of the seven wonders of the antique world, placed at Ephesus, current Turkey.Currently only foundations and a column still exist. Temple building lasted 120 years, starting circa 575 BC. It was destroyed by a fire caused by Herostratus, on 356 BC, who planned the destruction to his name be remembered in future. The birth of Alexander the Great coincided with the temple's destruction. Alexander offered to rebuild the temple, but it was done after his death, about 323 BC. In 268 AD, the temple was destroyed or damaged in a raid by the Goths, an East Germanic tribe.
