The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus or Tomb of Mausolus was placed at Halicarnassus city, Persia, actual Turkey. 45m. high, was built as tomb for Mausolus and his sister-wife Artemisia II of Caria. It was the last survivor of the six destroyed World Wonders. Was destroyed by successive earthquakes from 12th. to 15th. century. Nowadays, the word mausoleum became a generic way to name over ground tombs.

It was a grandiose tomb built for King Mausolus, a Persian satrap, in the 4th century BCE.
