Comment
This coin is a piedfort for KM# 252, means to be a coin minted on a double width planchet, using the same dies of the final version, so weight shown in it does not match the real one.Columbus reached Cuba on his first trip to América, on Oct. 27th., 1492, early in the night, so waited to next day to set foot on land. Columbus thought it was Japan, at that time named as Cypango by Marco Polo. Later first name given to Cuba by europeans was "Juana", named after the second daughter of the Spanish Monarchs.
Interesting fact
The Pattern 10 Pesos (Arrival to Cuba - Piedfort) 1990 coin from Cuba is a rare and unique coin that was never put into circulation. It was minted to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christopher Columbus in Cuba, and only 500 of these coins were produced, making it a highly sought-after collector's item among numismatists.
