One of twenty-six 10 pence coins in the Quintessentially British A to Z collection featuring a different letter to represent and celebrate different British landmarks and traditions. Introduced in 1949, by James Callaghan MP, the then parliamentary security to the minister of transport, he came up with the name ‘zebra’ as he believed it would be easily understood and remembered.Issued individually (issue limit: 15,000) as well as in a case with all 26 letters (issue limit: 200). The design was also struck in nickel plated steel.

Interesting fact
The Zebra Crossing design on the 10 Pence coin was created by the British artist, David Knapton, and it features a unique zebra crossing pattern that is meant to symbolize the connection between the wildlife and the urban environment. The design was chosen as the winner of a competition held by the Royal Mint in 2017.
