One of twenty-six 10 pence coins in the Quintessentially British A to Z collection featuring a different letter to represent and celebrate different British landmarks and traditions. Steeped in mystery and unclear in origin, ‘X marks the spot’ has taken on many meanings and been intertwined with popular culture, mythology and everyday life for centuries. The first recorded use of X marks the spot was in 1813, although it’s widely thought that it is much older than this. From the Royal Mint website for 2019: "There is an unlimited mintage set against the collectable Uncirculated Great British Coin Hunt A-Z 2019 10p coins made. However, 2.1 million circulating versions of the coins will be released into circulation from February 2019."
As well as being issued for circulation the 2018 coin was available to purchase individually and in a complete folder (37,992 sales) with all 26 designs, the design was also struck in silver proof.

Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique "X-marks-the-spot" design on the reverse side, which is a playful nod to the idea of treasure hunting and maps. The design shows a stylized map of the United Kingdom with an "X" marking the spot where the coin was minted. This design was created by the British designer, David Knapton, and it adds a touch of whimsy and fun to the coin.
