Life expectancy in Israel has increased substantially over a relatively short period of time, as a result of the achievements and efficiency of numerous public services, like health care and welfare. This longer life expectancy significantly increases the percentage of adults in the population and clearly, the world no longer belongs only to the young. Many senior citizens enjoy good health and spend a substantial part of their leisure time involved in volunteer activities, contributing socially, economically and culturally to the benefit of all.
The 2004 Independence Day Coin was dedicated to children, while the 2005 coin celebrated Israel's 57th Anniversary, commemorating the richness and creativity of its senior citizens. The 2005 Independence Day Coin expressed the idea that the child within each and every one of us reaches fulfillment during the Golden Years.
