Comment
The 10 mils coin was issued in bronze as opposed to copper-nickel in 1942 and 1943 during the Second World War so that the nickel could go towards the war effort. Both the 5 mils and 20 mils coins were also issued as bronze coins between the years of 1942 to 1944.For the Hebrew lettering of Palestine "פלשתינה" on the obverse side of the coin, there is a small acronym after it in brackets "(א"י)", which is shortened for "ארץ ישראל" (Land of Israel), the name used since biblical times to the present by the Jewish People for the geographical area that made up the lands of ancient Judea, the British Mandate of Palestine and later the State of Israel.
Interesting fact
The 10 Mils coin from British Palestine (now Israel) was used during a time of great change in the region. In 1927, the coin was introduced as part of a new currency system implemented by the British Mandate, which governed Palestine at the time. The coin was used until 1947, when the British Mandate ended and the State of Israel was established. During this time, the coin was used alongside other coins and banknotes issued by the Anglo-Palestine Bank, which was established in 1923. The 10 Mils coin was made of copper-nickel and weighed 6.5 grams, making it a substantial coin for its time. Despite its relatively small denomination, the coin is now a rare and valuable collector's item, providing a glimpse into the history of the region and its complex currency system.
