Interesting fact
The 10 Lepta coin was introduced in 1973 during the Regime of the Colonels, a military dictatorship that ruled Greece from 1967 to 1974. The coin was designed by the Greek artist, Georgios Stamatopoulos, and features the image of a phoenix rising from the ashes on one side, symbolizing the rebirth of Greece after the military coup. The other side features the value of the coin and the Greek letters "ΔΕΚΑ" (DEKA), meaning "ten." This coin was the first decimal coin introduced in Greece and was used until the country adopted the Euro in 2002.
