The "Almabtrieb" (Alpabzug or Alpabfahrt in in Swiss German; Désalpes in French) is an annual event in the alpine regions in Europe, that takes place in late September or early October. During the Almabetrieb, the cattle are brought down to low pastures after the summer season, when the herds feed on alpine pastures high up in the mountains. This practice is also known as transhumance in English.
