The coin features a unique design, with the obverse side bearing the image of Marshal Philippe Pétain, who was the Chief of State of Vichy France during World War II. The reverse side features a stylized image of the French Republic, with the motto "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity) inscribed at the bottom. The coin's design was created by the French sculptor and engraver, Auguste C. Normand.
