The Swiss National Park is located in the Western Rhaetian Alps, in eastern Switzerland. It is within the canton of Graubünden, in the Engadin valley, on the border with Italy. It is part of the worldwide UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
The golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) is the most widely distributed species of eagle. They are one of the most highly regarded birds in falconry. Despite being extirpated from or uncommon in some of its former range, the species is still widespread, being present in sizeable stretches of Eurasia, North America, and parts of North Africa.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the Pattern 10 Francs (Golden eagle; trial) 2008 from Switzerland is that it features a unique design element - a golden eagle - which was not commonly used in Swiss coinage at the time of its release. This design choice was intended to stand out from the standard designs used in regular circulation coins and to emphasize the coin's status as a special issue.
