Interesting fact
This coin features a unique combination of historical significance and numismatic rarity. It was minted during a transitional period when Monaco was transitioning from its traditional currency system to the Eurozone. The "essai argent" designation indicates it was part of experimental silver coinage trials conducted before the country fully adopted the Euro. This particular example, dated 1966, represents one of the last silver coins issued by Monaco before the country began phasing out its national currency in preparation for Euro adoption. Its silver composition (.900 fine) and relatively high weight (25g) set it apart from most circulating coins of its time, making it both historically significant and highly collectible among numismatists interested in European monetary history and transition periods.
