Comment

The spade represented is an issue of the State of Han issue during the Warring States period, cast circa 350-250 BC.

All Year 25 coins were supposed to be minted at the Shanghai Mint in pure nickel (and so were supposed to be magnectic). However, that year, a warlord had the Tientsin Mint produce these coins out of a nickel alloy, and because it was an alloy of nickel, those examples ended up being non-magnetic.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 10 Fen (Magnetic) 25-28 coin from Republic of China is that it was made of Nickel, which is a magnetic material, and it was specifically designed to be magnetic to help distinguish it from counterfeit coins. This feature was particularly important during the 1930s when counterfeiting was a significant problem in China. The use of Nickel in the coin's composition also made it more durable and resistant to corrosion, ensuring that it would remain in circulation for a longer period.
