Margarita Salas Falgueras, (1938-2019) was a Spanish scientist, medical researcher and author in the fields of biochemistry and molecular genetics. She was a pioneer of molecular biology in Spain, a great advocate of women's rights and an inspiration for generations of women scientists. She has received numerous awards and prizes, including the UNESCO Carlos J. Finlay Prize (1991) and the Santiago Ramón y Cajal National Research Prize (1999).
