On the occasion of International Women's Day, and paying tribute to the lawyer and politician Clara Campoamor, the Royal Mint of Spain issues a new silver collector's coin dedicated to a woman who fought for equality, freedom and progress and for the right to women's suffrage.Clara Campoamor was a Spanish politician, lawyer and writer who defended women's rights. During the Second Spanish Republic, she created the Women's Republican Union, and was one of the main promoters of women's suffrage in Spain, which was included in the Constitution of 1931 and was exercised for the first time in the 1933 elections. Because of the Civil War she had to flee Spain and died in exile in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1972.
