Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (29 September 1547 (assumed) – 22 April 1616 NS) was an Early Modern Spanish writer widely regarded as the greatest writer in the Spanish language and one of the world's pre-eminent novelists. He is best known for his novel Don Quixote, a work considered as the first modern novel. The novel has been labelled by many well-known authors as the “best book of all time” and the "best and most central work in world literature".
Interesting fact
The Miguel de Cervantes coin was issued in 2016 as part of a series commemorating the 400th anniversary of the death of the famous Spanish writer, best known for his novel "Don Quixote." The coin features an image of Cervantes on one side and King Philip VI on the other. It's made of silver (.925) and weighs 27 grams. Interestingly, the coin was not circulated and was only available for purchase from the Spanish Royal Mint.
