20th July of 2021 will mark the 800th anniversary of the laying of the first stone in Burgos Cathedral. To celebrate this important event, the "Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre-Real Casa de la Moneda" is joining in the various tributes by issuing a coin commemorating this important event, both culturally and socially.
The construction of this emblematic Spanish Gothic building took place during the 13th century, at least with regard to its main Gothic structure, consisting of three naves with ambulatory and transept nave, apse chapels, doorways and cloister. In later centuries, new architectural works were added, such as the spires on the main façade and the dome over the transept, giving the church its unmistakable cathedral profile. Thanks to all this, this marvellous jewel of classical Gothic art was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.
