The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has invited the Royal Spanish Mint to participate in the official collector coin programme for the World Cup scheduled to be held in Qatar (21 November to 18 December 2022). Qatar is the smallest country to host a FIFA World Cup and the first nation in the Middle East to host such a sporting event. On the occasion of this event, the FNMT-RCM is issuing two coins, minted in gold (100 Euro) and silver (10 Euro) respectively.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup was the 22nd FIFA World Cup, the world championship for national football teams organized by FIFA. It took place in Qatar from 20 November to 18 December 2022, after the country was awarded the hosting rights in 2010. It was the first World Cup to be held in the Arab world and Muslim world, and the second held entirely in Asia after the 2002 tournament in South Korea and Japan.
