Comment

On the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the Thyssen-Bornemizsa Museum, the National Factory of Currency and Timbre-Real Casa de la Moneda dedicates the fifth issue of this collection called Treasures of Spanish Museums. The complete collection is composed of five coins: gold coin of face value 400 Euro, silver coin of face value 50 Euro and 3 pieces in silver of face value of 10 Euro.

The Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum (Spanish: Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza; named after its founder, Baron Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza), or simply the Thyssen, is an art museum in Madrid, Spain, located near the Prado Museum on one of the city's main boulevards.

Sir Peter Paul Rubens (28 June 1577 – 30 May 1640) was a Flemish artist and diplomat. He is considered the most influential artist of the Flemish Baroque tradition. Rubens's highly charged compositions reference erudite aspects of classical and Christian history. His unique and immensely popular Baroque style emphasised movement, colour, and sensuality, which followed the immediate, dramatic artistic style promoted in the Counter-Reformation. Rubens was a painter producing altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, and history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects.

Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (late December 1617, baptized January 1, 1618 – April 3, 1682) was a Spanish Baroque painter. Although he is best known for his religious works, Murillo also produced a considerable number of paintings of contemporary women and children. These lively realistic portraits of flower girls, street urchins, and beggars constitute an extensive and appealing record of the everyday life of his times.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique combination of artwork from two famous Baroque painters, Peter Paul Rubens and Bartolomé Esteban Murillo. The obverse side of the coin showcases Rubens' "The Descent from the Cross," while the reverse side features Murillo's "The Immaculate Conception." This blend of artistic styles and themes makes the coin a truly distinctive piece for collectors and art enthusiasts.
