Comment

Nikos Kazantzakis (1885–1957) is a Greek author and translator whose best-known work is the novel Zorba the Greek. He was born in Heraklion, Crete (Kriti), and educated at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where he received his law degree. After graduating he went to the French Third Republic, where he studied philosophy under Henri Bergson. Also well known is his novel 'The Greek Passion', about the reenactment of a passion play in a Greek village. This excellent author is the main motif of this commemorative coin and his portrait is shown in the obverse of it.
The coin is issued in BU quality in triptych blister set along with eight (8) Greek euro coins (€2, €1, €0.50, €0.20, €0.10, €0.05, €0.02, €0.01), minted in 2007 also in BU quality.

Interesting fact

The obverse side of the coin features a portrait of Nikos Kazantzakis, a famous Greek writer and philosopher, while the reverse side depicts a scene from his novel "Zorba the Greek," showing Zorba dancing with a woman.
