With the motto "European Heritage" the Royal Mint issues the X Series of coins of the Collection of the Europe Program. The issue is dedicated on this occasion to the writer Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1547-1616), author of The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha, the greatest novel of universal literature.
Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (29 September 1547 (assumed) – 22 April 1616 NS) was an Early Modern Spanish writer widely regarded as the greatest writer in the Spanish language and one of the world's pre-eminent novelists. He is best known for his novel Don Quixote, a work considered as the first modern novel. The novel has been labelled by many well-known authors as the “best book of all time” and the "best and most central work in world literature".

The interesting fact about this coin is that it was issued to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, a famous Spanish writer and poet, best known for his novel "Don Quixote". The coin features an image of Cervantes on one side and King Juan Carlos I on the other.
